S. Kidman & Co employs staff in a diverse range of positions across its 14 cattle properties and Feedlot operation. The Head office is based in Adelaide with our stations located in rural Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Our Feedlot is located at Sedan, South Australia.

Opportunities for employment on our properties may arise throughout the course of the season, which generally runs from mid February to December each year. Positions that may become available include:

Bore Mechanic - Brunchilly

We are seeking a full-time, experienced Bore Mechanic for Brunchilly Station, situated 100km north east of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Bore Mechanic is required to service, maintain and repair Kubota motors and pumps and other general bore pumping equipment. Other duties include trough and fencing repairs, vehicle and workshop maintenance and operation of a Loader. Assistance with Bore runs to check station watering points and maintain water facilities and pipelines may be required at times. Sound mechanical knowledge of Kubota motors and pumps is required, along with a strong regard for workplace health and safety.

Applicants must have good communication skills, be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised. An HR Licence and Loader ticket is preferred.

Gardener/Handyperson (Immediate Commencement) - Ruby Plains
Ruby Plains Station, located 50 km south of Halls Creek in the East Kimberley of Western Australia, is seeking a full-time Gardener/Handyperson to commence mid-November.

Duties include maintaining large, well established station gardens and the general upkeep, tidiness and maintenance of the station's buildings and facilities.

Successful applicants must:
  • Have practical experience in gardening activities, including planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, fertilising, mulching, mowing and watering
  • Have good communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Be self-motivated and able to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Have a strong commitment to workplace health and safety
  • Hold a current Driver’s licence
  • Have Chemical Users Accreditation (desirable).
An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.

Head Stockperson (Commencing late Dec 2017/Jan 2018) - Helen Springs
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and energetic person for the role of Head Stockperson at Helen Springs Station, situated 140km north of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

Helen Springs is a 5,626 square kilometre breeding property and runs 27,000 head of Brahman/Charbray cross cattle.

Reporting to the Station Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Supervising and undertaking effective and timely herd management;
  • Recording stock numbers for the livestock information system;
  • Training, supervision and leadership of staf;
  • Maintaining and developing facilities and improvements;
  • Monitoring and responding to land and environmental issues; and
  • Assisting with purchasing.
The successful applicant will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, have a high level of leadership and supervisory experience, be a competent horse and licensed motorbike rider, and experienced in handling cattle in a quiet and controlled manner. A proven ability to keep accurate records, a good grasp of technology and computer literacy and a strong focus on safety in the workplace is essential.

Home Tutor (2018 School Year) - Innamincka
We are seeking an experienced Home Tutor for Innamincka Station, situated in the far north east corner of South Australia (approx. 35km from the Queensland border).

The position is available for the 2018 school year, commencing a week prior to the start of Term One or other date as negotiated.

The position requires the provision of educational support and supervision of two boys - a 7 year old commencing in Year 2 and a 5 year old commencing in Reception via the Port Augusta School of the Air.

Key duties include:
  • Coordinating & supervising the daily school lessons and curriculum;
  • Planning & maintaining a structured school schedule;
  • Organising & providing materials & equipment needed
  • Maintaining regular contact with teachers;
  • Encouraging participation in and developing extracurricular activities such as arts & crafts and sport;
  • Attending school activities off station;
  • Undertaking alternative duties around the station as required, e.g. light domestic/gardening, helping in the kitchen.
Successful applicants will need to be energetic, self-motivated, flexible, highly organised, have a positive outlook, and most importantly be genuinely interested in teaching children. Tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded. Requirements include:
  • Previous experience in a similar role;
  • Sound literacy, numeracy & writing skills;
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office™ applications;
  • Good planning & organisational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to children;
  • Police and/or Working with Children check;
  • Senior First Aid certificate;
  • Drivers licence.
